 Opportunities after Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

GATE is organized by Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technologies. Aspirants are graduates and postgraduates mostly from engineering and science. Valid GATE score can explore plenty of opportunities in higher studies, academics, research, PSUs etc.

Higher Education after GATE:

Admissions for M.Tech, MS, ME, PhD, JRF programs are possible through valid GATE score. Good All India rank can ensure admission in IISc, IIT, NIT, GEC for Masters or Doctoral programme.These institutes pays stipend also during programme.

Some of IITs like IIT, Guwahati are providing dual programme i.e. M.Tech+Ph.D. where candidate will get financial assistance for 5 years i.e. 2 years of M.Tech and 3 years of Ph.D. programme.Financial assistance is more during Ph.D. programme than that of M.Tech programme.

Reputed companies like L&T, TATA Motors, Indian Oil, Maruti and many more selects post graduate candidates from these reputed institutes.

Many of global technology companies like Microsoft, YAHOO, GOOGLE, General Motors, and General Electrics have started R&D division in India. These research establishments employ only masters and doctorate candidates. Also to get admission for Junior Research Fellowship programme in CSIR and Other R&D establishments like BARC, Valid GATE score is important.

NITs are conducting common admission process for admission to M.Tech programme in NIT. It is called as CCMT. A candidate has to apply through COAP portal for admission in IIT.

Currently there are total 31 NITs in India. Out of it, 11 are relatively newly established whereas 20 NITs are old. There are around 7 old IITs and also 16 New IITs. To get admission for M.Tech in old reputed IIT, one should have all India rank below 300 in GATE.

GATE cutoff is generally ranging between 25- 35 for various categories. NITIE Mumbai is offering admission to PG programme in management through gate. Some of the programmes are Post Graduate diploma in project management, manufacturing management etc.

Opportunities in Public Sector Enterprises:

The government-owned corporations are termed as Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in India.

Public sector enterprises are categorized in three basic major categories based on performance, turnover and profit etc.

They are given below:

These PSEs are recruiting management and graduate trainee through GATE. Valid GATE score and Best rank is required to get interview call letter from PSE. It is required to apply separately for each PSE. Some PSEs are giving advertisement for registration before GATE and after GATE registration starts. While some of PSEs gives it after GATE result.

Once GATE score will be released then PSE will ask to submit GATE enrollment No and GATE score card. Based on it candidate will get interview call letter. Most of the PSEs are conduction Group discussion followed by Interview.

PSE cutoffs are generally 60 and above, even some of the reputed PSE like NTPC, Indian Oil shows cutoff of 70+ for open category.

If candidate will be able to make entry into reputed PSEs then through sponsored category he or she can appear for M.Tech course also that too through IIT. In this case fees of course will be borne by sponsoring organization. R7D organizations like Bhabha Atomic Research Centre are offering M.Tech. programme through sponsored category at IIT in addition to job offer.
