Freedom of association in industry means industrial democracy workers are no more treated merely as wage earners. They are treated as partners in the productive process. Naturally, they must be consulted and their suggestions taken into consideration while framing policies and managing day to day administration of a factory.

Thus labour participation in management means giving them as partners in the management of a factory .The purpose is to create cordial labour – management relations and to avoid industrial unrest and disputes. It also crates mental and emotional involvement of workers in the working of a factory so freedom of association means the rights of workers to organize in union and to bargain collectively over the wages and conditions of their employment.

Main importance of association in industry is as follows:

A)    Employees and employer good relation

B)    Assures fair wages to workers

C)    Minimises unrest among the workers

D)    Reduced conflicts, lockouts, strikes.

E)     Gives compensation, Insurance to workers.

F)     Provides Job Security for Workers.

G)    Provides healthy Environment conditions in industry.

H)    Ensures better working conditions for workers.

Major Problems faced by labourers’ in Industry

a)      Many a times children are forced to work in industries on lower wages which might lead to certain accidents.

b)      Men-Women Inequality.(Women are paid low wages for same amount of Work)

c)      Lower Standard Facilities (for e.g. Sanitation) are provided to Labourers which might lead to spread of certain diseases.

d)     Workers are forced to overwork without paying any over duty charges.

e)      Government specified funds like P.F. are not paid by the many of the employers.

f)       Safety Rules are not often followed in industries which leads to accidents cases which are also kept hidden for the sake of Reputation of Company

g)      Workers are also not provided with sufficient PPEs (Personel Protective Equipment) which often lead to accidents.

h)      High Authority People deceive Labourer owing to their Illiteracy and don’t give them their respective Incentives.

How above problems can be overcome by “Association of Workers in Industry”?

a)      Association should follow norms regarding min. Age for a labourer

b)      Association should include women representatives which will deal with problems among women.

c)      Association should demand Required Facilities to Labourers and appoint a Emergency Medical Help Care Team for Labourers.

d)     Association should bring Justice with every Labourer Regarding his Payment and Incentives.

e)      Association should ask employer for forming a Safety Department and appoint a team to ensure Safety of Labourers.

f)       Association should monitor whether every labourer is equipped with sufficient PPEs.

So we conclude that there is need of workers’ association in industry to maintain good relations between employees and employer in order to achieve specific goal of industry.
